UTP is a multi-profile University offering technical, agricultural, art and management study programmes. It is a strong scientific research institution in the region. In particular, the Animal Biotechnology and Genetics Department and the Technology Transfer Center contribute to the project.
Throughout the 65 year-history the studies at the University have been completed by 38 000 graduates, mostly majoring in civil engineering, mechanical engineering and machinery construction and agriculture. 7 faculties, inter-faculty units and administration employ about 1300 people, 680 of which are academics, including almost 134 professors and doctors of science.
All the faculties of the University are entitled to award PhD degree.
The scientific and educational activity is based on co-operation with almost all the domestic universities of technology and agriculture and with many foreign centers. UTP cooperates with many companies and participates in preparing regional strategy for cooperation with industry.
The Animal Biotechnology and Genetics Department has the expertise to employ molecular biology, transcriptome analysis, immunocytochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, image analysis, tissue and cell culture, cells manipulation (isolation, genetic modification, introduction into recipient) and in ovo technology to answer questions related to the application of avian biotechnology to biomedicine and agriculture. It has a wide experience on poultry research, including use of in ovo technology for immunomodulation and improvement of performance, acquired through several national and international projects. NGS is implemented for immunogenetics studies in chickens.
The Technology Transfer Center has a wide expertise in promoting partnerships between University and private companies, facilitating the transfer of academic research outputs to the private sector companies. It supports the commercialisation of the research work and encourages entrepreneurs to establish cooperation with the scientific community, as well as to use the research offer carried out at the faculties of the University of Technology and Life Sciences in Bydgoszcz.
